Monthly Music Saturday
Morning sessions will take place as usual at the Village Hall. Afternoon sessions will be at Gallery 45, in the upstairs room. Gallery 45 is in the middle of the village, on the other side of the road from the Village Hall. It is a wonderful place. If you haven't been before, check out www.feltongallery45.co.uk/
Sight Reading We've had two hard working sessions untangling lots of syncopation. This month we'll aim to build confidence sight singing with just a few syncopated bits to cope with. Count and clap as ever, and a touch of looking closely at notation.
We'll continue to use the three Spirituals in Confident Singing. Working in small groups, one or two to a part, everyone will be encouraged to practise good breath management. If you are planning to come and haven't got a copy of the spirituals, email me for a pdf to print out.
The A Cappella session has got into its rhythm. More experienced singers will have 10 new SATB pieces, sacred and secular to explore. Those who aren't sure enough yet to fly solo will work in supported groups. Suggested repertoire to review / prepare – Byrd “Non Nobis Domine” and “Now is the Month of Maying”. We'll continue working on how to improve in a group. I'll have extra copies of the folders of music for people who haven't come before or for a while.
Each Ukulele session evolves round the people who are there. Bring songs, tunes, techniques and short cuts to share.
Some Slow Tuners had another great evening at the Northumberland Arms on January 22, venturing this time to set off with a couple of tunes. We'll be hitting our February Saturday session with ever more enthusiasm to get more tunes under our fingers and speed up some of those we've already mastered. There'll be spare copies of our current tunes at the session – and do bring along any others you'd like to play.
Cost of Confident Singing is just 50p. For everything else, it's £1.50 for each session to cover room hire, refreshments and materials
