Music Saturday

Sight Reading

People are coping with counting rests so much better! We'll just do a little more rest work in December – it's such fun, and then carry on practising sight reading with our cheery Irish folk songs.

Confident Singing

We reviewed the basic ingredients of good singing, put it all into practice with impressive results, and made our collective vow again. It's all sounding better and better. We'll tackle a Christmas round or two in December – confidently of course!

A Cappella

There was a lot of hard work done. The more confident singers made good progress sorting out 2 and 3 part pieces on their own. Those who wanted a bit more support focussed on Integer Vitae and just about cracked it – we'll sing it again in December, and Mater Pia too.

Fret Group

We enjoyed our usual happy time, inducting one of us into the joys of the Ukulele for the first time. C and G chords, practising reading from tab and playing a Bear Dance in two parts. We'll have lots of things we can tackle in December – maybe even seasonal treats. Do encourage any players of ukuleles, guitars, banjos or anything similar to give us a go!

Slow Tunes

The warm up was Salmon Tails, Winster Gallop and Jimmy Allen. We worked on Floating from Skerry and The Road to Lisdoonvarna, and all three polkas, getting them quite brisk by the end. Da Slockit Light as an enjoyable cool down. In December we'll carry on working through the repertoire list Julia suggested. There'll be some more copies of the tunes for those without.

Swedish

After warming up with a familiar tune, we got to know some walking tunes – how they sound and what they were used for. The violin players were encouraged to add in some double stopping. There's no Swedish Music session in December – Chris has to be elsewhere and the hall is needed for the Film Club.

Music Saturdays are monthly workshops for singers and players. Everyone is welcome to come to one or more sessions as often as they want. See the Music Saturdays Page for more general information and plans for the next session.

Cost of Confident Singing is just 50p. For everything else, it's £1.50 for each session to cover room hire, refreshments and materials.
