Music Saturday

A day of Sight Singing, Madrigals and Recorder sessions.

The Second Saturday of every month is a Music Saturday. By the end of 2016, it was clear that a number of  people were keen to be involved in a few more activities on an occasional basis. It was impossible, though, to find times that everyone could make. The idea of the Music Saturday is that everyone knows well in advance when activities are going on.

Music Saturdays are about developing and practising skills. They provide an opportunity to try activities to find out whether they are interesting and enjoyable. Over time, different things are likely to be timetabled on Saturdays. In the summer, other events and commitments may mean Music Saturdays have to be a bit flexible.

How the days are structured:

Mornings are based at the Village Hall.
Drinks and biscuits provided beforehand and during the break. Both sessions are accessible by any level of singer, any voice. Cost is £1.50 for each part to cover room hire, refreshments and materials

  • 9.30 to 10.30 Sight Singing.
Improving music reading skills. The hour is progressive, with more basic stuff at the start and more complex by the end.

  • 10.45 to 12.00 Madrigals.
Developing confidence and independence in singing. Lots of small group work.

The afternoons are based at one player’s home in the village.

  • For the first 6 months, the afternoons were given over to recorder playing. These groups have developed into self-organising ensembles. See the Ensembles page above to find out more. This leaves Saturday afternoons available for one or two new activities to try.
